How to Plan the Perfect Christmas Wedding
We love the festive season and so you can imagine that in our eyes there is no better time to tie the knot with your significant other than at Christmas. But what do you need to make it both a magical and memorable day?
#1 The backdrop
When it comes to a Christmas wedding, the backdrop is essential. It needs to be uber-romantic and the stuff of dreams. And so no, the imposing county mansion or the stately home or the magic of a castle is not too much.
As well as a sweeping grand entrance, the interiors are sumptuous and if there is a roaring fire in the grate, all the better.
HINT – it’s cold outside so unless you have heaters and fire pits, asking your guests to hang out in the grounds for more than a few minutes is probably not a great idea. So, when you choose a hotel or stately home, you need plenty of inside space for people to mingle.
#2 Santa is a MUST!
Without the Man in Red, there is no Christmas. But if you are thinking of dressing up uncle Jimmy in a cheap red suit and padding out the waistband, think again.
This is your wedding, the day you have set aside to celebrate everything that is wonderful about two people publicly declaring their love, so why wouldn’t you hire a professional Santa?
Hire a professional Santa to make an appearance and instead of wedding favours on the table, he can hand out small gifts to your guests. Professional Santas are trained and experienced and can mingle and converse with people of all ages.
They also look amazingly realistic which in itself brings a whole heap of extra magic to your day.
#3 Stick with the festive spirit
If you are marrying around Christmas time or on the day itself, stick with the festive theme and do so unashamedly.
Frankly, you can’t have enough Christmas glitz and festive glamour so use it. Candlelight, beautiful Christmas flowers, holly and decadent cinnamon spice scents are all the perfect ingredients to make beautiful wedding settings.
#4 The festive Christmas menu
We are bursting with menu ideas that we can’t hope to get them all down but try these for size;
* Ditch the prosecco in favour of a lightly spice mulled wine with miniature mince pies as canapes between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast
* Rich soups are perfect as a starter, especially for warming up your guests after posing in the outdoors (let’s hope it snows!)
* If you don’t want Christmas dinner as your main meal, why not opt for a third bird roast or a decadent fish course?
* Brandy soaked pudding is surely essential, although you might want to get really fancy and opt for different liqueur soaked puddings or sauces with a twist
#5 Hire a snow machine
The last time we officially had a white Christmas in the UK was 2010 in which over 80% of the Met Office weather stations had a light dusting of snow.
It can’t be guaranteed so if you want snowy photos, hire a snow machine or hop on a plane and marry under the inky skies of a Scandinavian country in winter (and be ankle-deep in snow, guaranteed!).
And finally, don’t forget the mistletoe!
